MAY 2010
Rainbow Rescues Inc has been very busy the last few months.
We have adopted out several of our furry friends and have taken in quite a few more including Hope, Hank, Riley, Noodles and Chloe. Cindy Lou and Ralphie have found fantastic homes, and we even found the PERFECT home for Ivan the young Pit Bull. Ivan is enjoying his loving new home and is being spoiled rotten.
We are sad to see our intern Liz graduate and leave us but she has promised to keep in touch and we wish her all the luck in the world. THANKS LIZ!! Four Paws Up!!
We are also welcoming a whole new group of volunteers to the team and we are anxious to see them have as much fun as we do helping our furry friends. On behalf of the Rescue team I want to extend a heartfelt thank you for joining our organization and don’t forget to bring your friends.
As our busy season fast approaches we are interested in hearing everyone’s fundraising ideas. Please let us know any great ideas you may have for our fundraising and feel free to let us know if you would like to help. We are helping more pets than ever and it is crucial to keep raising funds to continue to rescue these pets. Donations come in all shapes and sizes and every little bit helps save another life.
As we change over our volunteer staff we want to thank you for your patience with our new volunteers and hope that we can continue to answer you messages and phone calls in a timely manner.
Thank you all for all of your support and kindness.

Everyone loves a new t-shirt right? Well here at Rainbow Rescues, we need your help. We don’t know what to put on the new t-shirts we’ll be receiving. We need your input! Please send us your ideas at mobrien@rainbowrescues.org. The winning design, or designs, will be printed up and given to staff members. Help us!
Cross your fingers everyone! Julie has a pending adoption with a local couple. Upon meeting them, she warmed up right away. She’s met with them a few times and so far, so good. Wish this girl luck that this is the one!
Rainbow Rescues’ newest addition, Neapolitan Mastiff Xena, has found a home. Dozens of interested people put in applications for her, called for her and met her. But she found her permanent home right down the road in Chicopee after a local woman fell in love with her drooly and playful ways. Congratulations Xena for finding your home, but we will miss you!
Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society has opened a low-cost spay/neuter clinic. This is the only local low-cost clinic in the Springfield area that is not income based. Now, Springfield area residents do not have to travel distances to give their pets the care they deserve.
Prior to this clinic’s opening, Rainbow Rescues Staff utilized the Friends of Animals Program through East Harford (CT) Animal Hospital. This program allowed staff to purchase a certificate for low-cost procedures. Through this program, the animals fostered at Rainbow Rescues received necessary procedures at a lower price than that of a regular veterinary clinic. However, the transportation and travel posed a bit of an inconvenience. Luckily, this travel is no longer necessary. Dakin offers non-income based low-cost services to any and all animals.
Cat exams cost $60, which includes the spay/neuter fee, pain meds and the exam itself. Fees vary depending on pregnancy. Rabies shots are an additional $10 and are required. Distemper is an additional $10 and a Feline leukemia test and feline HIV test are an additional $25.
Dog exams cost $100 dollars, which includes the spay/neuter fee, any pain medicine and the exam itself. Fees will vary depending on the size of the dog and pregnancy. Pitbulls are a flat $50 fee, regardless of size.
The clinic is open Monday-Friday during regular business hours. For more information, please call 413-781-4000 or visit their website at www.dpvhs.org.
